You're all dressed up with no where to go. Hair looking fly and lip gloss on shine. Your on a mission. No matter how many snaps of the camera it takes your looking for that perfect profile pic. The album is in need of a new addition and it has to be just right. In the privacy of your bedroom you've created and posted online a sexified version of yourself that shows off a little bit more than mummy would allow. "If I have it, why shouldn't I flaunt it?" This is one of the typical excuses my girls use to explain their Victoria Secret-like photo shoots. I know that we all love to flaunt those curves, cuts, figures and more, but don't tell me you didn't give a second thought to the huge number of guys whose jaws will drop the moment that picture is posted. Suddenly your notifications counter gone crazy and your loving it. One of my very close friends and a fellow mod sec graduate (btw it have more than one mod sec) decided to give me the low down on why all her profile pics are ... well let's just say they're slightly above PG-13. "It's actually all about competition. The way I look at it, some girls feel that they're the only ones that look good in a pum pum shorts, I'm just showing them that they're wrong." A 16-year-old Convent girl also told me that it's not just about putting some girls in their place. She said it's sometimes not even about the attention. Believe it or not, she says it does wonders for her confidence. "I work hard to get this shape, why should I hide it?" Honestly speaking, your profile pic is the first thing a person sees when they go to your profile, not your name or relationship status. Now is it wrong for a girl to want to make that eye-popping, jaw-dropping, "wayyyyyyy sah" first impression? A girlfriend of mine says that it's sometimes just a fun way to see how many friend requests she can get in a day. She swears that she's holding a record of 27, but brace yourself chica, I got 29 already. But forgetting the excuses, these pics are most definitely what ah fella loves to see. A guy who found out that I was writing this article strongly insisted on one thing. "No fella randomly adds just any girl...if yuh pic looking bess and showing something that we want to see, watch how fast we clicking that 'ADD FRIEND' button." Another one of my friends added, "Hoss, about 90% of my Facebook friends are girls with sexy pics up." Seeing that these fellas had such strong opinions, I just had to dig deeper into the conversation. They said that these pics are the sole reason why some girls have 1000+ friends on Facebook. I agree because homey (and yes I said homey) no fella will add you randomly on Facebook because of your personality. I remember this lecture I got from a UWI guy who strongly believed that a woman who shows her body for the entire world to see is exploiting herself. Part of me wants to agree with him but there is one main reason that is holding me back. If he was so against this, why is it that 83 out his 122 friends on Facebook (and yes I checked) are girls 'exploiting' their bodies? Sigh I would always remain of the opinion — to each her own. While I myself will never fully go to the lengths of posting skimpy pics 'pon d book' I have no words against those who do. A girl's morals and opinion on this topic are her own, although I'm very sure if she were to find say... her dad on FB, those morals and opinions would quickly change and her *ahem* saucy pics would be deleted faster than a cheat sheet could pass around an exam room.

morals and opinions...
written by a dude , May 26, 2010 Morality is one thing and doesn't change, opinions change. It's not wrong to put up those "sexy pics" once in a while, but there is a limit. Believe me, the media has passed that limit, so don't take you temperature from the media. The world has become so superficial........

written by Laura-Lee , May 26, 2010 I admit that i do get bored of my profile picture and decide to change it, dress up and get the perfect picture for it BUT it's not with the intention of catching fellas eyes. I just like to have a picture up that i like so what if you don't like it? To those half naked pictures in lingerie and those intentionally showing off parts of your underwear i honestly think to be desperate. But as said....that's their choice i just think girls should think twice about the pictures they display to the world!!!
keemz
written by AkeemaHoyte , May 26, 2010 dat is so true! becuz i had an experience dat ah guy wanted to have cybersex! all kinda nastyness! so i beg u all watch the profile pics u put up on fb! and not only dat! the pic i had up i was fully covered and the just wanted to c wat was underneath it! so its sometimes not just about wat u have on!

written by dhanib , May 26, 2010 I enjoyed reading this article. It was light reading but very true and it was not to tell people if it was right or wrong but just a point of discussion. Keep doing your thing...and I live by to each their own because at the end of the day you can only account for yourself. Good work.
Take heed ppl!
written by ellz , May 26, 2010 I can honestly say that I do not have one single 'sexy' pic of me on fb.All my pics are normal and fully clothed.I dont make joke wit dat.I have my morals and standards and i stick with that.A friend of mine was tellin me her bro cant seem to hold down a job and the reason for that is fb.Even tho he delete his profile nothin the internet nevr really goes away and employers have a way of obtaining ppl profile even when it 'delete' so beware of wat u post!
so true
written by Vanessa , May 26, 2010 i congratulate the author of this article because i am a girl and i am totally fed up with seeing girls putting themselves on fb in this light! they put up these pics and when they hear rumors going around about them then they wanna take it down wen they no its wrong in the 1st place?!?! and the comment about having 1000 friends is sooo beyond stupidity and idiocy it's unbelievable because i get a lot of friend request being called on of those 'pretty girls' that they claim an i dont accept because the point of having so much ppl on mii account, watching mii stuff and i'm neva gonna take to them makes no sense to me ! so i am realli sorry 4 all those girls who cant seem to see it like this !
...
written by Bee , May 27, 2010 i agree an by this u can also attract preditors but one thin i must say is dat girls add fellas 4 d same reason
Hmmm........
written by Stacy , May 27, 2010 yea i do think girls are exploiting themselves, but i have 1300+ friends. i would say i know about 80% of these ppl and they know me. mind you, i don't put up sexy pictures with batty riders, beach wear, skinning up on couch, or anything of the sort. i totally agree with keems because my current profile pic is 1 of me after church standing in front of the building, no sexy pose, just a nice cute smile =D, (its a body shot but the clothes en tight) and the amount of request i get daily of ppl that don't even share 1 mutual friend with me is amazing. it's not always about what you are wearing. and another point is that ppl shouldn't put there addresses on fb because i have added a few "friends" that i didn't personally know but they shared friends. i eventually deleted them because they looked for me where i lived. Young girls need to be careful in this day and age.
BE MY FRIEND :(

written by dhanib , October 01, 2010 Mr. Be my friend. If this is really you asking for help love. then I suggest you try to take your online confidence into the real world. Cause love, one day you gonna realize that all you have to comfort you are saved messages and no true physical memories. I wish this for no one as I was almost on that road in some ways. Be careful and be weary and make a difference in your routine TODAY! NOT TOMORROW.
good column
written by a girl , January 29, 2011 A lot of the people who have a million and one pictures of their "so-called" hott selves on Facebook are basically vain and i agree that they are exploiting themselves. i also agree with the author of this because I'm a girl who doesn't see it necessary to show my body to get friends.
I see no problem so long as its not nudity
written by Francis , January 30, 2011 Well I recently posted a racy picture cause my fb was a little too dead cant say i didnt like the attention and sorta felt liberated
Once something goes on fb,you cannot retrieve it.
written by Sharane , January 31, 2011 I understand some girls would like to flaunt a little because they possess nice assets so to speak, but some just over do it!!!! there is no need to expose something to gain the wrong kind of attention! your body is the temple of God,if you don't respect it,who will? Once you put something up,it's subjected to all sorts of comments,if that's what you're looking for, then proceed, just remember what danger you set yourself up for.

written by Sheneil , February 06, 2011 This article right here brought a smile to my facew. It is so true. As you so rightly said they not only do this to get attention but to also put some other girls in their place especially the so called "haterz". While i am not discriminating against these young ladies because i have a few pics in short dresses, they nheeed to remember that what goes on Facebook stays there no matter how you try to delete it. So some of them just need to take it down a little Write comment
