You're all dressed up with no where to go. Hair looking fly and lip gloss on shine. Your on a mission.
No matter how many snaps of the camera it takes your looking for that perfect profile pic. The album is in need of a new addition and it has to be just right.
In the privacy of your bedroom you've created and posted online a sexified version of yourself that shows off a little bit more than mummy would allow.
"If I have it, why shouldn't I flaunt it?"
This is one of the typical excuses my girls use to explain their Victoria Secret-like photo shoots.
I know that we all love to flaunt those curves, cuts, figures and more, but don't tell me you didn't give a second thought to the huge number of guys whose jaws will drop the moment that picture is posted.
Suddenly your notifications counter gone crazy and your loving it.
One of my very close friends and a fellow mod sec graduate (btw it have more than one mod sec) decided to give me the low down on why all her profile pics are ... well let's just say they're slightly above PG-13.
"It's actually all about competition. The way I look at it, some girls feel that they're the only ones that look good in a pum pum shorts, I'm just showing them that they're wrong."
A 16-year-old Convent girl also told me that it's not just about putting some girls in their place. She said it's sometimes not even about the attention.
Believe it or not, she says it does wonders for her confidence.
"I work hard to get this shape, why should I hide it?"
Honestly speaking, your profile pic is the first thing a person sees when they go to your profile, not your name or relationship status.
Now is it wrong for a girl to want to make that eye-popping, jaw-dropping, "wayyyyyyy sah" first impression?
A girlfriend of mine says that it's sometimes just a fun way to see how many friend requests she can get in a day. She swears that she's holding a record of 27, but brace yourself chica, I got 29 already.
But forgetting the excuses, these pics are most definitely what ah fella loves to see.
A guy who found out that I was writing this article strongly insisted on one thing.
"No fella randomly adds just any girl...if yuh pic looking bess and showing something that we want to see, watch how fast we clicking that 'ADD FRIEND' button."
Another one of my friends added, "Hoss, about 90% of my Facebook friends are girls with sexy pics up."
Seeing that these fellas had such strong opinions, I just had to dig deeper into the conversation.
They said that these pics are the sole reason why some girls have 1000+ friends on Facebook.
I agree because homey (and yes I said homey) no fella will add you randomly on Facebook because of your personality.
I remember this lecture I got from a UWI guy who strongly believed that a woman who shows her body for the entire world to see is exploiting herself.
Part of me wants to agree with him but there is one main reason that is holding me back.
If he was so against this, why is it that 83 out his 122 friends on Facebook (and yes I checked) are girls 'exploiting' their bodies?
Sigh I would always remain of the opinion — to each her own.
While I myself will never fully go to the lengths of posting skimpy pics 'pon d book' I have no words against those who do.
A girl's morals and opinion on this topic are her own, although I'm very sure if she were to find say... her dad on FB, those morals and opinions would quickly change and her *ahem* saucy pics would be deleted faster than a cheat sheet could pass around an exam room.
