The sweetest smile, beautiful eyes and pure swagger. This boy is handsome on steroids. You're using all the tricks in the book to try and catch his eye. That is until he does the unthinkable.

Just as you were sure he was going to turn his gaze in your direction, Mr. Right's hand moves downward as though by some magnetic pull.

Before you can stop yourself from looking, you're witness to the act.

The image of the tragedy is burnt into your retina leaving an imprint on your memory that is no different from that awful song you hate but constantly find yourself singing.

Nineteen-year-old Rachel doesn't care which superstar singer, Oscar-worthy actor or reality-show celebrity he looks like. If he's a squeezer it's not going to please her. Lol.

Like many others she has wondered what's up with all the groping. Why is he grabbing his crotch?

He's itching? Trying to flirt? Reminding himself that it's still there?

Talk to enough people about this mystery of mysteries and you will find a heap of theories.

Many of them centre around male homosapiens being disgusting brutes who constantly need to remind themselves of their manhood.

But some guys are saying this just isn't true.

Travis Paltoo, 19, knows when his hand hits that spot most people find the practice offensive. He, on the other hand, thinks he's a victim. A victim of ill-fitting underwear.

He insists that it is not a case of grabbing for grabbing sake but an attempt at a quick adjustment to his underwear.

He told The Student Press that if the same thing happed to a female she would wait until she could get to a private place. Guys, he believes do not have a problem with fixing themselves in public.

Mickel Ballah, and his two friends, Lyndon Harrington and Lou-Dillon Green, said they too were guilty of groping at their midsection in public.

Ballah 19, recalled wearing a "drawers", his mom purchased for him that was so tight there was no ventilation.  He said he spent the day pulling at his crotch hoping to find some relief.

"I don't know where my mother buy that drawers but it was real tight ... that was some wickedness boy," he said causing his friends to erupt into laughter.

Harrington also recounted his experience of wearing an extremely loose "drawers" that caused his "goods" to become displaced while traveling in a taxi from San Fernando to Curepe.

"I had to sit like that for the whole journey. That was a real painful ride boy. I throw away that "drawers" afterwards yes," Harrington said.

They teens also had some advice for ladies on what to look for when purchasing underwear for their boyfriends or sons.

"Know his size and don't go and just buy any and every brand. Think about yourself, when you go to buy your own stuff. You look for something that is comfortable right? Well it's the same thing for the guys. Just think comfort," Green added.

Another 19-year-old, Marcus, believes finding the perfect fit is the best way to deal with the issue.

"The few times my hand goes down there it is to do some fixing. It might be a case of the "drawers" being too tight and you have to pull at it.

Or it might be a case of your drawers being too slack and in that case the Frank and Beans might slip to the side, you know what I mean so you have to do some fixing," he said.

He said underwear of an inferior quality also adds to his discomfort and suggests that guys wear what he called the "good brands" like Fruit of the Loom.

"I just love their products it fits really nice. Hanes is pretty comfortable too and it is a little more durable than Fruit of the Loom ... Joe Boxer is a good brand too," he said.

For him this issue has nothing to do with trying to look macho and everything to do with being comfortable.

While you'll never know for sure, chances are that the next guy you see grabbing his crotch may be suffering the same fate. And while this knowledge may not make the sight any more pleasant it may make you a little more sympathetic.
