Greetings, my minions. Today is a day to rejoice. For now your master has returned to his rule over the Internet as well. Now all things technological are under my rule. To reward your patience, I shall grace you with not one, not two, not four but three Web sites to have you entertained during this period of sheer boredom.
www.googlefight.com
First up is Googlefight.com. So what is this site? It is a fun way to use Google. Ever wondered what's more popular or has the most articles about it on the Web? Now, my dear minions, you can find out. Googlefight is so simple, yet so addictive.
The homepage is nothing fancy, just a plain page with a small animation box and two input boxes. Now, it may sound boring, but trust me, it's a true hidden gem. The input boxes request that you type in a keyword for each, then click "fight." When you do, the animation box loads an animation of two stick figures fighting, and one is defeated. So what's so fascinating about this? Simple.
The two stick men are your keywords and the victor is the keyword with the greater number of results when searched on Google.com. After the animation, the victor is revealed and a bar graph is displayed showing the number of results found for each keyword.
This is quite fun, as you can now pit really interesting keywords against each other. I tried LOL vs. Jesus.... Jesus was utterly defeated. If you're not feeling so creative, you can access the sidebar to view the top and funniest keyword faceoffs. This site will keep you amused for quite some time.
Is this site too childish for you? If so, then you are no longer my minion. But as a consolation prize, here's a site for you.
www.readprint.com
This is another gem from the Internet. Here you can read books for free. Yea, books. This site is perfect for those who want to be ... ummm, what do you call it ... uhhh...Chief Editor shouts out, "A productive member of society!" Yea, that's it: a nerd.
But all jokes aside, this site is truly amazing. Now, before you get all excited, let me tell you now: You will not be able to read "Harry Potter" or "Twilight" here, sorry. Readprint unfortunately has very few modern titles. So why would I recommend this site?
God knows why .... Uhhh, I mean, because it is filled with more classic titles. Books that you may have never heard of, but should have. Honestly, I'm not into reading often, and when I do, I want captivating authors like Dan Brown, Greg Iles and Richard Dawkins (the GOD of atheism).
However, when I tried some random books on this site, I was astonished. The grammatical skills you can develop from reading these classics will impress even the most compliment-constipated English teacher.
Readprint also has another fun feature. It's like Twitter for authors. There are some pages on this site dedicated to authors and quotes from their books. This is actually an interesting function that will captivate you as you try to remember where each quote was from.
www.musicovery.com
So you battled some searches and read a book, now what? Maybe some music. But you're tired of the songs you have on your iTunes. So how about a site that plays music based on your mood? Like a mood ring, but not so cheesy. Well, my minions, welcome to Musicovery.com. When you load the site, you are greeted by a page as simple as Googlefight.
A small box will appear with moods on it. There's dark, calm, positive and energetic. Now, all you do is click where you feel. For example, if you feel positive and energetic, click between the two. What happens next is amazing. Some songs load to the side. These songs reflect the mood you've set, which is quite amazing. One of the songs starts playing and everything seems to be perfect, until you try to change the song.
When you try to play another song from another artiste you know, you are stopped by the message "For Premium Users Only" or some mess like that. So how does one become a Premium User? You pay ... $4US a month. That's about $24TT. I'm sorry, but I don't want to pay to listen to music. So here's what you can do: The songs are listed by name and artiste. So just go to YouTube.com and listen to it there, because I know you won't download it illegally. Right?
