Striker Anton Gill scored four goals as his team, Carapichaima East Secondary, registered an impressive 8-0 victory over first time finalist Tabaquite Composite in the Coca-Cola InterCol central zone final at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, yesterday.
Tabaquite's defence seemed to have no solution to Gill's quick pace and deft touches as he scored goals in the 36th, 57th, 60th and 75th minutes for "Caps" to complete yet another zonal double and their eighth central InterCol victory overall.
From early on in the contest, things looked bleak for Tabaquite, who qualified for the final after a upset win over Presentation College 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
After dominating play for the first 15 minutes, Kurt Griffith finally fired "Caps" into an 18th minute lead when his powerful left footed blast whistled past goalkeeper Arnold Johnson to open the floodgates.
"Caps" had to wait until the 36th minute for Gill to make it 2-0 with his first of the afternoon and five minutes later Kerron Gray extended the advantage to 3-0.
Two minutes into the second-half, Tabaquite had its first attempt on goal via semifinal hero Shaun Outar but it failed to trouble the Carapichaima goal.
At the other end of the field, Gill and his team-mates continued to pile on the pressure and he added his second of the match in the 57th minute before completing his hat-trick at the 1-hour mark.
Antonio Jeffrey joined in the 70th minute while Gill (75th) and an own goal from Tabaquite's Kerron Knights in stoppage time rounded off the scoring.
"Caps" dedicated the win to deceased former schoolmate Dorion Duncan. The Central champions now advance to the national InterCol quarterfinals where it will play the winners of today's East Zone final, featuring national "Big-Five" winners St Augustine vs El Dorado East Secondary at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar from 4pm today.
At the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Mason Hall also completed the zonal double when it whipped Signal Hill 4-1 in the Tobago final.
Nariel Wilson opened the scoring for Signal Hill but Shuniel Charles and Brandon Joseph hit back for Mason Hall to lead 2-1 at the break while Christon Campbell and Selvon Williams added items in the second half to complete the turnaround.
