Defending champs, St Augustine Secondary, booked a date with El Dorado West Secondary in the East Zone final of the Secondary Schools Football League 2009 Coca Cola Intercol at the Larry Gomes Stadium Malabar, on Friday November 13.
The two teams, which occupied the first two spots in the league competition, claimed 5-4 penalty kick wins after both their semi-final matches ended at 1-1.
Gustine, who are the league and Big Five champs, had to come from behind after Arima took the lead in the first half. Kendes Garcia found the net in the 38th minute, a lead Arima would hold until late in the match.
This score line would have certainly brought back memories of Arima's 1-0 win over the defending champs in the second round of the league, as they were the only team able to beat the "Green Machine" this season.
Things, however changed in the 83rd minute as Zavion Navarro kept his team's hope of winning four titles this season alive when he found the equalizer. Then it was to the spot for the kicks, where the pressure was too much for Daniel Reid, Arima's first kicker and his shot was saved by St. Augustine's custodian.
While all the other kickers for Arima scored, their custodian was unable to save any of the shots from the "Green Machine" players which resulted in the defending champs winning 5-4.
In the other match El Dorado's kickers held their nerve to score after Grande's fourth kicker went wide of the mark.
Earlier in the match, Daniel Cyrus put El Dorado ahead with a strike in the 23rd minute, a lead they held up to late in regulation.
With time ticking away on Sangre Grande's chances, they got a lifeline with six minutes to go. Akel Alverez delayed El Do's celebration as he found the net to make it 1-1.
In the head to head match ups this season "Green Machine" holds a 1-0 advantage after it won their league's first round match against El Do1-0, while the second round match ended in a 1-1 draw.
