The chaos witnessed in Haiti after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked its capital on Jan. 12 made us acutely aware of how vulnerable we are to natural disaster.
Scenes in Port-au-Prince days after the earthquake could happen anywhere in T&T, without a proper crisis-management system in place. It is good to see that Minister of Education Esther Le Gendre has taken note of that fact.

By the design of the laws found in Section 13 of the Sexual Offences Act, homosexuality is illegal. Supporting immigration laws also debar homosexuals from entering this country. Add to that the plethora of religious laws which denounce homosexuality and the odds of it being widely accepted in Trinidad and Tobago are stacked pretty high.

Again, we are forced to revisit the issue of the illegal trade of the “PH” taxis. “PH” taxis plying their services for hire across T&T is only one symptom of a deeper issue, which is the lack of commitment by the Government to provide reliable transportation systems, so that the traveling public would not have to depend on “PH” taxis.
