The St. Augustine Secondary student who allegedly stabbed her classmate, 15-year-old Shivana Mata, appeared before a magistrate this morning at the Tunapuna Magristrate's Court charged with malicious wounding. The 14-year-old student, accompanied by her mother and attorney Maraj Ali, appeared before Magistrate Adrian Dharmanie shortly after 10am. The girl was charged yesterday and released from the Arouca Police Station after her mother posted bail which was set in the vicinity of $40,000. She was taken into custody after the incident on Wednesday and spent one night in the station's holding cell before being released to her mother. When The Student Press spoke to the alleged assailant she said things got out of hand before she was aware of what was happening. "I didn't really mean to stab her it was just to scare her 'cause she was threatening me," the third-former said. While out on bail she must report to the Arouca Police Station between 9am and 1pm every Saturday until she is scheduled to reappear in court on March 12. The girl's mother told The Student Press she applied for her daughter's transfer to Toco Composite before the stabbing incident. She was not sure if her daughter would return to St. Augustine Secondary or be granted the transfer.
