One of the latest trends in footwear (for females, that is) is gladiator sandals. They have made a comeback. This design is inspired by the ancient Greeks, who used to wear sandals with a T-strap and many straps across the foot similar to what we wear now (well, not as stylish…sorry, Greeks). Available now in various modern styles, low straps, ankle-high or knee-high strapped up your leg in true gladiator styling (some might say “passa passa”), this hot new trend is versatile and comfy. With a wide array of bright colours, even metallic gold, silver or metallic blues, some made from leather, braided, double-buckled or, for a not-so-casual occasion, you can get your jewel-studded gladiator sandals. That’s right, they catered for the stoosh in T&T, too. It’s the talk of the mall, the “must have” footwear; even Hollywood could attest to this. Seen on the feet of Hollywood familiars like Ashley Olsen, Lindsay Lohan, Gwenyth Paltrow, Kirsten Dunst, even superduper models Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, and that’s just a few. Everyone is wearing gladiator sandals. Yuh know, Trini second in line after Hollywood when it comes to style right. So can you imagine stunting in Trincity Mall or Movie Town (which seems to be the popular hangout spot for teens these days) for the premiere of “Fast and Furious” with the whole crew from school and you Ms. who’s who in ah flipflop? Yuh loss yuh stripes, immediate downgrade. Casually dressed in Pencil Jeans or Bermuda pants and a cute top, GD sandals should be your footwear. More on the chic side, so you opt for a cute wrap or sundress, GD studded sandals should be your footwear. You like the “passa passa” kinda look? There’s one for you, too, knee-high GD sandals. With almost every shoe store in the malls, Arima, San’do, Tobago and P.O.S., yuh guaranteed to find a pair to rock your personality and style, and they’re easy on the pocket. Face it, there are no rules with this one, from TGI’s to The Falls or Gulf City, from the Water Park to Maracas, you have no excuses. You don’t want to be left without one. Goodbye to those boring flipflops, a new fashionable “wear with everything sandal” just took its place. The flipflop just lost its fight to “THE GLADIATOR.” Trackback(0)

glad to see flip flops go
written by kheba , April 29, 2009 i quit the flip flop trend a long time ago, it kinda bothered me that trinis were so blinded by an international craze that we didnt realise we allowed 'rubba ding ding' to become a staple in our wardrobe. gladys are far more chic and appropriate for different occasions. not sure if i like the jelly ones though, a little on the tacky side...
responding to miss tacky side
written by bessest goddess , May 15, 2009 yes we all love the glads but girl u wrong about the jellies they are hott right now in barbados and antigua and now that i come back home they still cutting they fresh and match with anything and as far as tacky goes check ur gloating kheba.
tacky or not?
written by kheba , May 28, 2009 lol u puttin me in my place girl? I've never been a fan of jellies period (i'm sorry "jelly" is just not my preferred material for making shoes) so naturally i see jelly gladiators as a sub-standard imitation of a style that has real sophistication. they may be hot for some people but what can i say, they're just not my cup of tea. :)
