Let's tell you from a girls view. Ever thought the girl likes you (the guy) as more than just a BFF? Yup it's true I actually love my BFF (a guy) but I wont take it further than that because I don't want to lose him as my best friend. I don't want to make the mistake of anyone screwing things up and then what our friendship wont ever be the same. It would always be totally weird. My BFF took the cake with making me melt last night and making me fall back asleep with a smile on my face. But he will only be my BFF because I don't want things to go downhill with us. And don't tell me that not all relationships end in failure. Chances are more than half do and I don't want to be one of those in the more than half section so I would avoid the WHOLE thing by keeping it the way it is.
