So, I just saw The Social Network for the first time this past weekend (I know, I know, I’m LATE) and it hit me how recent a development Facebook really is. I mean, the site was launched about seven years ago, gradually becoming open to everyone over 13. But then, why is it that I can’t remember what life was like before Facebook? How did we get in touch with friends we hadn’t seen in years? How did we share links to cool articles and videos? How did we waste the time we were supposed to be using to study or work? How did we remember our friends’ birthdays? I don’t know for sure, but I suspect we used e-mail (remember that?) for the first two and aimless web surfing for the third. As for my friends’ birthdays … well, I’ve never been good with dates. No Farmville (or Cityville, or Mafia Wars), no pokes, no tagging your friends’ walls. These days, I check Facebook first thing in the morning, waking up my computer as soon as I roll out of bed. With a foamy toothbrush in my mouth, I respond to a wall post, harvest some crops, and provide my friends with my profound thought of the day. Not that I’m all that profound at five in the morning. I know, on some level, that this is all relatively new; that there was a time, not so long ago, when I didn’t yearn to know who responded to my status update or if anyone sent me the last brick for my orchard, but I can’t remember what that time was like. It’s as if I was reborn when I succumbed to my Facebook addiction. Sound dramatic, doesn’t it? What did you used to do?

written by MeThinks , January 11, 2011 I know, it's like a constant compulsion, tugging away at the corner of your mind, isn't it? I remember when I could wait to talk to my friends the next day at school, or when my mother would bawl me off the phone saying: "You just saw her in class like an hour ago? What could you possibly have to say to her now?" These days, no matter what I'm doing, I'm always a click away from a FB chat. Madness.
Realest!
written by Billy , January 28, 2011 Before facebook there was Hi5, before that, Myspace, before that and still going strong, msn-msnger; and before that, AIM, but if you still using AIM, SOMETHING WRONG or I wouldnt pass you if you still have dial-up! But seriously though, "We need to let facebook give us our face back and myspace to get out of my space so we can interface with the real faces out there!"-some deep poetic youtuber, she was a girl (kinda hott). SO that's my 3 shilling! *updates status* (wonder who going and be the first fb whore to like it!) Write comment
